So my little blue glue gun has run away from home. Perhaps it is all the extra attention Dorothy has been getting. Or maybe it's because I haven't done my glue gun the honor of giving him a name. It could be shame over his poor condition after all these years. But he is gone. Hiding somewhere in the dark corners of my studio space. Quite possibly oblivious to his cameo on todays blog post. Poor blue glue gun.
Onward and upward, I say! In lieu of that D.I.Y. I promised, I will share another 52 Weeks With Dorothy post. Did you guys catch my newest vintage furniture purchase on Instagram?
I'm not gonna lie to you, this beauty is one of my favorite pieces yet. I had my eye on it for months and this past weekend I went back to the antique store, ready to buy it if fate had left it there for me. And fate obliged. Meet my new coffee table/trunk. Much smaller than my previous Craigslist one. But in my case, smaller is better because that means less space to clutter with teacups and magazines. Plus, I have a place for all my blankets, couch pillows and vintage afghans. Double score. In order to preserve the top from dreaded water rings, I decided to whip up some coasters.
Oh heavens, good thing I love the imperfections. : ) My attempted zig zag stitch went a little wonky, but you get the idea right? This was a simple project (sans fancy stitch.)
Cut two 5" squares of fabric and sew them-pretty sides together- on all four sides leaving a 1"opening to flip inside out. Cut a square of felt a little smaller than your coaster and slide it inside, working out the kinks until it is flat. Sew opening closed with a whip stitch or with your machine. Use fancy stitching at your own risk.
The felt inside will help soak up any cup sweat. Ha. I think I'll give this project another go this weekend. Second times the charm right? P.S. Great gift idea!
