This story begins with my incomparable friend Roxanne and a little Colorado Springs cafe we went to for lunch one rainy day. She suggested I try the Lavender Lemonade and I was done for. That was ages and ages ago but I have been wanting to make some from scratch ever since. A couple weeks ago I snagged some lavender plants from Whole Foods and I have been keeping them alive for such an occasion. This weekend I finally made it happen.
The recipe is super simple. All it requires is some Simply Lemonade, a fresh lavender plant, water and a bit of sugar. Oh... and a large pitcher because a small batch won't last very long.
Step 1: Measure six cups water into a saucepan and heat on medium-high. Once it comes to a boil, turn off the stove.
Step 2: Drop is 12-15 flowers from your lavender plant. You can use the stems too but the flower buds are the most fragrant. Let them steep for 15-20 minutes.
Step 3: Pour the contents of a pot through a fine colander to separate the flowers from the liquid. I was disappointed to see that my mixture didn't have that lovely pale purple color... but once you mix it with the lemonade that color will come out. You can see my concentrate below and it looks more like black tea.
Step 4: Fill your pitcher about 3/4 of the way with Simply Lemonade.
Step 5: Slowly add in your lavender concentrate. The amount of concentrate you use is dependent on your personal taste but I filled up the remaining 1/4 of the pitcher.
There it is! A delicious, refreshing glass of Lavender Lemonade.
